 Miami Formula E Race

Miami Formula E Race is coming to Downtown Miami. Biscayne Boulevard will be part of this exciting event. Bringing back car racing to our city!

Miami and Long Beach are the two US cities to play host to Formula E Race.

This innovative Electric Racing Series features ten teams for one hour races with top speed of 135mph and zero emissions.

Formula E Holdings CEO Alejandro Agag stated:

“We want to promote the use of electric cars in cities around the world…cities that are at the front of the green button.”

For those of us, that grew up in Miami and have been anxiously waiting for another Grand Prix, here it is, with a twist, “electric cars, the wave of the future”.

Grand Prix of Miami took place between 1983 and 1993 in the streets of Downtown Miami. For the race car enthusiast, it was exhilarating!

Now back to our streets, the Miami Formula E Race set to run around Biscayne Boulevard and the American Airlines Arena, through Southwest 12th Street and Southeast Second Avenue, turn right on Southwest 14th Street and down back to Bayshore Drive and back to Biscayne Boulevard.

The set up is underway! They need a total of four to six weeks to set up the circuit that runs through its downtown area.  All work on the circuit is being done at night not to disrupt traffic flow in the area.

Miami Formula E race, set to take place on the streets of downtown Miami, Fla., on March 14, 2015.

Andretti Sports Marketing has been chosen to organize the Miami Formula E Race.

Miami stands to profit from the race in several ways. The Formula E event will create 240 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs. The visitor count is expected to hit 25,000 and the race event will net the city some $10 million.

Miami city commissioner, Francis Suarez, had this to say of playing host to the racing event:

“I think this is precisely what Miami needs.  It reminds me of my teenage years when I grew up watching the Miami Grand Prix.  This is precisely the kind of visionary project that we should support and be engaged in.”

Congratulations to the City of Miami for bringing this event to our city! We are all looking forward to it.
